On account of World Cancer Day, cancer awareness and screening program was conducted in Bantwal Taluk Hospital on 08/02/2023.
1. WALKATHON
The program started a with Walkathon from Bhadra gas agency at 9.30 AM to Bantwal taluk hospital. Dr. Ashok Rai, THO, Bantwal inaugurated the program. Staff, THO, PGs, Indian Cancer Society (ICS) members, interns, ASHA workers, A.J. allied health students participated in the camp. Dr Maria Nelliyanil (Professor, Dept. of Community Medicine) provided valuable inputs for conduction of Walkathon.
2. HEALTH EDUCATION SESSIONS
In Bantwal hospital, the function started with prayer song by DrVibha (Intern) and by lightning the lamp. Dr Sanjeev Badiger (HOD, Dept. of Community Medicine, AJIMS) spoke about importance of spreading cancer awareness. Dr. Ashok Rai (THO, Bantwal) stressed on the role of ASHA workers in spreading cancer awareness.
Awareness talks were given about various cancers.
- Breast cancer by Dr. Nidhi Shetty (PG, Dept. of Community Medicine, AJIMS)
- Oral cancer by Dr. Shreeshanand (PG, Dept. of Community Medicine, AJIMS) and by DrArati (Dental dept., Bantwal Taluk Hospital)
- Cervical cancer by Dr. Suvanshi (Intern)
Nearly 40 ASHA workers from surrounding PHCs benefitted from the program. Dr Ashok Rai (THO, Bantwal), Dr. Pushpalatha (AMO, Bantwal Taluk Hospital) and Mrs. Shaila Lobo (Regional operational manager, ICS) were felicitated with mementos.
3. CANCER SCREENING
With support of DrPushpalatha (AMO, Bantwal Taluk Hospital) and ICS, Cancer screening was carried out by A J Institute of Medical Sciences and A J Institute of Dental Sciences.
Dr. ShambulingaKamble (Assistant Professor, Dept. of Community Medicine), Dr. Shabanaz and DrAbeera (PGs) attended the camp and mobilized beneficiaries for cancer screening along with others.Dr. Nidhi, Dr. Rima, Dr. Shreeshanand, Dr. Sai Keerthi (Community Medicine Dept PGs) and Mrs.Prajna (MSW) organized the day under the guidance of DrJayamala (MO, RHTC, Pane) and Dr. Sushantha (Assistant Professor, Dept. of Community Medicine).
Total beneficiaries: 70
Breast cancer screening (Surgery): 32 beneficiaries
Oral cancer screening (Dental): 40 beneficiaries
Cervical cancer screening (OBG): 28 beneficiaries (Pap smears collected)
